jthorseI have a job that requires me to sit in meetings and at a computer for long periods of time, and I ride horses in my off hours. I started suffering with debilitating pain shooting down the left side of my neck and shoulder that went all the way down to my hand in October of 2013. I went to my chiropractor and doctor and tried doing what they told me to do, but nothing seemed to help. I ended up finding Matt online and went to see him in December of 2013 to see if he could help massage out the problem.

He found some incredibly tender points on my shoulder (both shoulders, actually!) but they didn’t seem to relieve my issue. Unlike other massage practitioners, he didn’t just keep hammering away at it, but decided to take a different approach that involved some strengthening exercises to retrain muscles in my back, neck, and shoulders and made sure I understood how slouching and my posture in general was consistently irritating my neck, shoulder, and arm. I was a little skeptical, but after about two weeks of progressively retraining my body, the pain was completely gone.

One of the things I especially liked about Matt’s approach that was different from medical practitioners was that it was holistic; he took into account what I do during the day, my posture, my athletic activities, my time constraints, and things going on in other parts of my body before making decisions about what was best for me. Doctors seem to concentrate on the one body part that hurts without taking into account other factors.
