Wow! That pretty much sums up my experience thus far at Upright Health. There’s few times in my life where I would feel this excited to write a review, but I guess there’s a first time for everything :).
I do olympic lifting and I was having a hard time going all the way down into my squat. For some reason, I just couldn’t go below 90 degrees. If I did, I would have groin pain and have a hard time squatting days later. I went to a chiropractor for physical therapy and adjustments. It kind of worked, but it wouldn’t “stick”. After about 5 sessions, the chiropractor became worried and ordered an MRI with contrast. From that, I was diagnosed with having a double labral tear in both hips. Recommendations: arthroscopic surgery to return to full activity. Went to several very prominent hip doctors in Los Angeles, all said the same thing. The cost: At least $20K with insurance . . .
Before I continue, I do want to preface and say that I think most doctors mean well. Some probably don’t have the best of intentions, but most I’ve met take there own advice and treatment recommendations. From that standpoint, I realized after this experience, doctors don’t know everything. In fact, by the nature of their profession, they need to speak with confidence regardless if they know the best solution because 1) it would freak patients out and 2) they would lose business.
With that said, I really didn’t want to get surgery. The amount of time it could take to recover, plus the lack of guarantee that it would fix my problem made it impossible to accept. So I started looking for alternative solutions and came across Upright Health’s FAI fix online. I tried the program and scheduled a couple of sessions with Matt. Within just 1 session, I immediately began to see improvements in my squat and hip mobility. I scheduled a few sessions in person (that’s right, I flew up to the bay area for the sessions) and wow! I can go all the way down in my squat again! Bear in mind that outside of the sessions, Matt gave homework to do on my own. I did the homework and thus, saw pretty close to miraculous results.
The total cost? About 1/25th of surgery with no downtime. That’s simply amazing . . .
To anyone who is reading. If you have a problem with hip impingement, and the doctors are saying “you need surgery”, I highly recommend you see Matt. Matt is one of the few practitioners that not only know what they are doing, but has suffered from the same problems and overcame on his own. That’s very powerful. He’s there to help so even if the diagnosis seems grim, I would stop by Upright Health and see if there is anything that can be done.
